Now that it’s hitting March, and spring is just around the corner, there probably will be a lot of weddings taking place. As a little girl I used to dream about my wedding (as did a million other little girls too), what it would look like, how many bridesmaids I would have, what dresses they will be wearing, designed by who, short or long? Purple, pastel colors or nude? But what means more to me than anything else in the world…is the wedding dress itself. I would picture myself wearing it while standing in front of the mirror. The long, beautiful veil atached to the back of my perfectly quaffed bun would go on for miles and miles (let’s hope I don’t trip on it!) the white, delicate fabric clinging to my body, not too tight, just right. Strapless. Lace. And made with love.
I’m pretty sure that’s every young girl and woman’s dream. To find that one perfect dress that fits them like a glove, made by Vera Wang perhaps? IMAGINE THAT! But always remember, if you want to wear a Vera Wang custom made dress….”You don’t alter Vera to fit you. You alter yourself to fit Vera!” – Kate Hudson aka Liv Lerner from Bride WarsOne of my favorite movies! To be honest, that quotes doesn’t even apply here. Because weight isn’t an issue, so stop thinking that!. The goal here is to find a dress that gives you butterflies inside, a dress fit for a princess. ‘The Cinderella dream dress’ is what I call it. You can call it whatever you like. But I think a wedding dress has to match your personality. That’s really important. Because if it doesn’t then you might not like it, or you may even hate it and then throw it into a fire and let it burn, baby burn! The worst thing you can ever do is hate your wedding dress. You have to love it, love it with all your heart and soul. Find a dress that matches your love for the person you are going to be marrying. The color, fabric, length are all important too.
The color is the most important because it’s makes the dress look good, and you have to look good in it to feel good about yourself. The color should not be something that makes you want to gag at the sight of it. Like green. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would choose green as the color of their wedding dress…at least I hope not. It has to stand out but not be over the top. A nude colored wedding dress is quite chic, elegant and sexy, Badgley Mischka fits that description PERFECTLY. Off-white is also great, it’s not exactly white, but it’s more in between. Cream colors can be put into that category as well. It’s simple. But not basic. If you want real color that exudes passion, romance and even more sex appeal go for a mixture of red and white. Or just red, It reminds of a Telenovela where the women always where dramatic, over the top dresses. It’s sweet n sassy. I like that but also the shoes are a big factor when wearing a red dress. Don’t do ‘matchy matchy’ because it looks like you’re trying way too hard to impress your groom, make all your bridesmaids jealous. And it’s just extremely tacky. Don’t do the red heels. Black or Silver would do just fine, that goes for the traditional white dress as well!
The length of a wedding dress is crucial. Because it can’t be too long otherwise you will probably trip and fall on your ass at your wedding in front of your now husband and his family, your family, his friends and your friends. Basically EVERYONE. So embarrassing! I’m a known klutz so this is important for me to know as well. Also you are going to be dancing in this dress, you have to be aware of your surroundings so you don’t trip one of your bridesmaids on the dance floor with your wedding dress train.
And then there’s the big one. ‘The Cinderella dress’, the ‘Creme De La Creme’ of all wedding dresses. The pure beauty. The traditional white wedding dress. My first sketch that I ever did was of the traditional white wedding dress, or my version of it. I have always admired it from afar, walking down the streets of Manhattan looking into the wedding dress store windows and seeing it in utter glory on that mannequin, made my heart skip a beat…literally. It was happiness all wrapped into this huge white box and a white ribbon placed in the middle, keeping it in it’s perfect condition. VERA WANG it said. That’s my dream, and it will always be my dream till the day I get married. I’m not so sure about buying a designer dress, but we’ll see what happens, in the mean time I’ll keep on dreaming, waiting and thinking.
I’ll leave you all with this:
“The key is falling in love with something, anything. If your heart’s attached to it, then your mind will be attached to it.” – Vera Wang
